Welcome to the 10 courts of Hell at Haw Par Villa. (I thought last time was 18 levels?) 10 courts of hells shows you the various level of punishments you can expect after death, if you enter Hell. Please note that the pictures may be unsuitable for minors. Looking at the sculptures were much more awe striking than viewing pictures.
Admission fee: $1.
Before you enter, you can see these sculptures outside:
Repent is not too late. (苦海无涯，回头是岸). The sea of suffering is endless, there is no end to it. Do not persist the road if you know you are wrong, turn back.
Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva (地藏王菩萨). I think he is very noble, he made a vow not to achieve Buddhahood until all hells are emptied.
地狱未空，誓不成佛

OK time to enter hell.
In the 1st court of hell, Trial conducted by King qinguang, those who had done good deeds in their past life will be led over to the GOLDEN BRIDGE to reach paradise. Those whom good deeds weighed over crimes committed can cross the SILVER BRIDE to reach paradise.
Those whom did evil were sent to the MIRROR OF RETRIBUTION to reflect on their past evil doings before sending for punishment.
2nd court of hell. Hell is hot, or you can say Hell is cold. Punishments for sinners:
Thrown into volcano pit. (Inflicting physical injury, conmen, robbers)
Frozen in blocks of ice. (Corruption, stealing and gambling)
Drown in blood pool. (Prostitutes)
3rd court of hell.
Heart cut out. (Ungratefulness, disrespect to elders, escape from prison)
Tied to red pillar and grilled. (Drug addicts & Traffickers, Tomb robbers, urging people into crime and social crime)
4th court of hell. If you intentionally drive someone to death, the person will be standing on top of this town and watch how you received your punishment.
枉死城
Grounded by large stone (Tax dodger, refusal to pay rent, business fraud) and pounded by stone mallet (Disobedience to one's siblings, lack of filial piety).
5th court of hell.
Thrown into hills of knives. (Plotted another's death for his property or money, money lenders with exorbitant interest rates)
6th court of hell.
Body saw into two. (Misuse of books, posession of pornographic material, breaking written rules and regulations, wasting food)
Thrown onto tree of knives. (Cheating, cursing, abducting others)
7th court of hell.
Tongue pulled out (Rumour-mongers, sowing discord among family members) and thrown into boiling pot of oil (Rapists, driving someone to their death).
8th court of hell.
Intestines and organs pulled out. (Lack of filial obedience, causing trouble for parents or family members, cheating during examinations)
Body dismemberment. (Harming others to benefit own self)
9th court of hell.
Head and arms chopped off. (Robbery, murder, rape, any other unlawful conduct)
Crushed by boulders. (Neglect of the old and the young)
10th court of hell. Finally after serving the punishments, sinners will be trial by King Zhuanlun before reincarnation, human or animals. Notice the animals on their back?
Before reincarnation, sinners will be given a soup of forgetfulness by old lady, MENG PO, after drinking which will forget everything and get ready for a new life.
And the cycle starts all over again. |
